This short-wave converter, which doesn’t have a single coil requiring alignment, is intended to enable simple medium-wave receivers to be used to listen to short-wave signals. The converter transforms the 49-m short-wave band to the medium-wave frequency of 1.6 MHz. At the upper end of the medium-wave band, select an unoccupied frequency that you want to use for listening to the converted short-wave signals. Good reception performance can be obtained using a wire antenna with a length of one to two metres. Circuit diagram : Short-Wave Converter Circuit Diagram The converter contains a free-running oscillator with a frequency of around 4.4 MHz, which is tuned using two LEDs (which act as variable-capacitance diodes!) and a normal potentiometer. The frequency range is set by adjusting the emitter current using a 1-kΩ trimpot. The oscillator frequency depends strongly on the operating point. This is due to the combination of using an audio transistor and the extremely low supply volt...

12V to +-20V Automotive Power Converter Diagram The limitation of car supply voltage (12V) forces to convert the voltages to higher in order to power audio amplifiers. In fact the max audio power x speaker (with 4 ohm impedance) using 12V is (Vsupply+ - Vsupply-)^2/(8*impedance) 12^2/32 = 4.5Watts per channel, that is laughable... For powering correctly an amplifier the best is to use a symmetric supply with a high voltage differential. for example +20 - -20 = 40Volts in fact 40^2/32 = 50 Watts per channel that is respectable. This supply is intended for two channels with 50W max each (of course it depends on the amplifier used). Though it can be easily scaled up or the voltages changed to obtain different values.

This wave shaper needs an input saw that goes from Vss to (ideally) Vdd. It works well with the 4069 VCO designed by René Schmitz. Any saw will work as long as the wave is centered halfway between the rails. It works as follows: The upper set of 2 linear mode gates provide an inverted and noninverted copy of the saw. The 3 logic gates at the bottom provide a sort of comparator that switches at halfway between the rails. Sawtooth to Triangle Converter for Oscillator Circuit Diagram The 4007 provides 2 P-MOSFETs that alternately select the inverted or noninverted saw signal depending on where the saw is in it's cycle. This causes the ramp to reverse directions every half cycle. Any imperfection in the saw will show up in the resulting output. The linear mode gate furthest to the right provides soft clipping that turns the triangle wave into something like a sine wave. It sounds like it has fewer harmonics than the triangle. To use with FatMan sawtooth output: Power all IC...

This is the simple frequency voltage converter circuit diagram. Teledyne Semiconductor`s Type TSC9402 is a versatile IC. Not only can it convert voltage into frequency, but also frequency into voltage. It is thus eminently suitable for use in an add-on unit for measuring frequencies with a multimeter. Only a few additional components are required for this.. Just one calibration point sets the center of the measuring range (or of that part of the range that is used most frequently). The frequency-proportional direct voltage at the output (pin 12—amp out) contains interference pulses at levels up to 0.7 V. If these have an adverse effect on the multimeter, they can be suppressed with the aid of a simple RC network. The output voltage, U0, is calculated by: tfo=C/rei(Ci + 12 pF) R2fm Because the internal capacitance often has a greater value than the 12 pF taken here, the formula does not yield an absolute value. The circuit has a frequency range of dc to 10 kHz. At 10 kHz, t...

This converter uses a low-pass filter instead of the usual tuned circuit so the only tuning required is with the receiver. The dual-gate MOSFET and FET used in the mixer and oscillator aren`t critical. Any crystal having a frequency compatible with the receiver tuning range may be used. For example, with a 3500 kHz crystal, 3500 kHz on the receiver dial corresponds to zero kHz; 3600 to 100 kHz; 3700 to 200 kHz, etc (At 3500 khz on the receiver all one can hear is the converter oscillator, and VLF signals start to come in about 20 kHz higher). SW Converter for Digital AM Car Radio Circuit Diagram This circuit is purposely presented with many loose ends (not literally, of course) to stimulate experimenting with RF circuitry at a small outlay. Looking at the circuit diagram you may recognize a modified version of the SW Converter for AM Radios described elsewhere in this issue. The modifications were necessary to make the circuit compatible with a digital rather than analogue AM car radio. The main difference between digital AM radios and their all-analogue predecessors is that tuning is in 9 kHz (some-times 4.5 kHz steps) in compliance with the international frequency allocation for the band. Obviously, that particular step size, desirable as it may be on MW, is a stumbling block if you want to use a digital AM receiver in combination with a frequency step-up converter for SW, where chaos reigns and there is no fixed step size. The first attempt was to make the crystal oscillator variable by about 5 kHz each way. SW Co...

Apart from chucking it in the bin, what can you do with old AM car radio or clock radio in your junkbox? How about turning it into a crystal controlled, stable, short wave radio receiver, for a minimum investment in time and money? Read on. The heart of the circuit shown here is an IC which goes by the name NE602, NE612 or SA612. It is a double balanced mixer that includes an oscillator that can be crystal-controlled, free running or even driven externally from a PLL, etc. It was originally designed for mobile telephones and is probably available in junked car phones from the tip. The NE602/612 contains a differential input amplifier (called a Gilbert Cell), an oscillator/buffer, a temperature compensated bias network and a power regulator. Typical frequency response is in excess of 500 MHz for the input and 100 MHz for the oscillator. Circuit diagram : SW Converter for AM Radio Circuit Diagram Supply current is 2.4 mA and the absolute maximum supply voltage is 9 V. Input and outpu...

The circuit described here is a step-up converter to drive 20 LEDs, designed to be used as a home-made ceiling night light for a child’s bedroom. This kind of night light generally consists of a chain of Christmas tree lights with 20 bulbs each consuming 1 W, for a total power of 20 W. Here, in the interests of saving power and extending operating life, we update the idea with this simple circuit using LEDs. Power can be obtained from an unregulated 12 V mains adaptor, as long as it can deliver at least about 330 mA. The circuit uses a low-cost current-mode controller type UCC3800N, reconfigured into voltage mode to create a step-up converter with simple compensation. By changing the external components the circuit can easily be modified for other applications. To use a current-mode controller as a voltage-mode controller it is necessary to couple a sawtooth ramp (rising from 0 V to 0.9 V) to the CS (current sense) pin, since this pin is also an input to the internal PWM com...

This is the 1.5V to 5V/12V DC/DC Converter with LT1073 Project. Small 1.5V to 5V or 12V DC/DC converter with LT1073 chip. The IC is available in three different versions, depending on output voltage. Two with fixed output voltage of 5V and 12V, and the most interesting that can be adjusted. The adjustment is done through a voltage divider with two resistors, of mass, output and Terminal 8, internally connected to the voltage comparator IC, which is responsible for stabilizing the output voltage. LT1073 has an internal everything you need to make a small DC / DC converter with a low operating voltage of only 95μA 1V and consumption without load. If you do not have a meter inductance, the inductive part of the drive is a bit more complicated to make, but we shall see some possible solutions. Capacitor also recommended by the manufacturer for the circuit is a bit hard to get, I have used a tantalum recovered from another power source, and the ripple voltage at the output is quite low....

This section investigates the Teledyne 9400 series , which can be used as voltage to frequency or frequency to voltage converters. The series includes the 9400, 9401, 9402 converters. These converters have the same internal circuitry and connection diagrams, but they differ slightly in electrical characteristics. A complete V/F or F/V system can be formed simply by using two external capacitors, three resistors and a reference voltage. In addition, the 9400 series consist of CMOS and bipolar devices that can operate on dual or single supply voltages. VOLTAGE TO FREQUENCY CONVERTER The 9400 is designed for pulse and square wave outputs having a frequency range of 1Hz to 100KHz. Furthermore, the input can be either current or voltage, and the output can interface with most forms of logic. The equivalent circuit consisting of an integrator, comparators, a delay network, a divide by 2 network and open collector output transistors.
