While rumours have started to swirl over whether or not Samsung will reveal their much-anticipated Galaxy S5 smartphone at Mobile World Congress later this month, the organizing committee has confirmed that they will indeed. Samsung recently sent out invitations to Samsung Unpacked 5, to be held at Mobile World Congress, and an accompanying video hinted that visitors might get a glimpse of the device. While it wasn’t confirmed, Mobile World Live confirmed the rumours. “Samsung is set to launch its Galaxy S5 smartphone at Mobile World Congress this month, having announced its Unpacked 5 event will be held in Barcelona. The company will hold an event on the evening of Monday 24 February, marking the first time it has unveiled a flagship device at the event since the Galaxy S2 in 2011,” they said. Late last year several media houses pegged the reveal around March with a consumer launch in April, but Mobile World Live said that the date has been brought forward – for several reas...

SW Converter for AM Radio

Image
Apart from chucking it in the bin, what can you do with old AM car radio or clock radio in your junkbox? How about turning it into a crystal controlled, stable, short wave radio receiver, for a minimum investment in time and money? Read on. The heart of the circuit shown here is an IC which goes by the name NE602, NE612 or SA612. It is a double balanced mixer that includes an oscillator that can be crystal-controlled, free running or even driven externally from a PLL, etc. It was originally designed for mobile telephones and is probably available in junked car phones from the tip. The NE602/612 contains a differential input amplifier (called a Gilbert Cell), an oscillator/buffer, a temperature compensated bias network and a power regulator. Typical frequency response is in excess of 500 MHz for the input and 100 MHz for the oscillator. Circuit diagram : SW Converter for AM Radio Circuit Diagram   Supply current is 2.4 mA and the absolute maximum supply voltage is 9 V. Input and outpu...

3A Power supply for USB devices

Image
This is 5V 3A power supply to drive two USB based devices simultaneously. This power supply is design around LM2576-5.0 switching regulator IC and the main reasons to choose this IC is its low parts count, small heat sink requirements and its inbuilt current limit protection feature. We specially design this power supply to work with development boards / single board computer (SBC) platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Banana Pi, BeagleBone, etc. This power supply can also be used to provide power to USB OTG peripherals over USB Y cables. We test this setup and got successful results with Huawei Ascend P6 mobile phone. [ ]

A Nokia Worth Attention But Not for Why Youd Think

Image
The new Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone is worth paying attention to, but not for the reason you've heard. The key figure in Nokia's ads and marketing is 41 -- as in, the number of megapixels of the Lumia's camera. That's a crazy number, triple what any other manufacturer except Nokia itself with its 808 PureView (which runs the old Symbian operating system, as opposed to the Lumia's Windows Phone 8) has ever put into a smartphone. The thing is, the number of megapixels, while important, is vastly overrated in evaluating smartphone cameras. Where it matters most is in maintaining sharpness at large sizes. Now, when was the last time you printed a poster from a photo taken on your phone? In fact, photos that pixel-dense can be a problem in real life; they take up lots of storage space and don't lend themselves easily to sharing. So now that we've disposed of that, here's what's important about the 1020: the camera. Nokia has included several feature...

Control Switch for Fan and Air Conditioner

Image
An electronic switch that can be used to switch on both the air-conditioner as well as fan of your room, one by one. The circuit consists of power supply and control sections. The power supply section is built around transformer X1, bridge rectifier BR1 and filter capacitor C1. The 50Hz, 230V AC mains is stepped down by transformer X1 to deliver a secondary output of 9V, 300 mA. The transformer output is rectified by the bridge rectifier and filtered by capacitor C1. Control Switch for Fan and Air-Conditioner  Circuit Diagram When the mains is switched on for the first time, pin 3 of IC CD4017 (IC1) goes high and relay RL1 energies to switch on the fan. When mains is briefly switched off using S1 and then switched on, the power to IC1 is maintained by the charge on capacitor C1. At the same time, there is a trigger pulse on the clock input (pin 14) of IC1, which advances the decade counter and relay RL2 energies to switch -on the air-conditioner. Both the air-conditioner and the f...

Synchronization circuit to make the signals useful in the process of scanning of the transmitter and sent to the Vertical and Horizontal. To be able to produce images on the picture tube phosphor surface is the same as what was sent, then the necessary adjustments to correct with ualsan which has decomposed on the sender and receiver on the review must be made again, and this is called synchronization. Click to view larger On TV transmitter switching pulses that have made the same frequency as in the reviewing, and by using the switching pulse is then mulapenguilasan point getter on the tube and picture tube can be adjusted simultaneously.  At the transmitter, each end of the line reviews one pulse is emitted horizontally, and also at each end of the line vertical review (this is called a field review), another pulse is emitted. At the receiver using switching pulses had the time of the beginning (start) review can be arranged horizontally and vertically. Switching pulses are c...

Adaptor for Bass Guitar Amp

Image
Adaptor for Bass Guitar Amp . These days, music is a major hobby for the young and not-so-young. Lots of people  enjoy  making  music,  and  more  and  more dream of showing off their talents on stage. But one of the major problems often encountered is the cost of musical equipment. How many amateur music groups sing  through an amp borrowed from a guitarist or bass player?  This is where the technical problems arise not in terms of the .25” (6.3 mm)  jack, but in terms of the sound quality (the words  are barely understandable) and volume (the amp  seems to produce fewer decibels than for a guitar). What’s more, unpredictable feedback may cause damage to the speakers and is very unpleasant on the ear. This cheap little  easy-to-build project can help solve these technical  problems. . The movement of user's arm along with haptic technology is used to control the Robotic ARM. Sensors like Mems(Accelerometer) and Flex sensor is used to control the Robot. Servomotor is used for Robot motion. A Radio frequency camera is used to transmit the visual signals of surgery to doctor's PC or TV where a RF Camera receiver is interfaced.           ...

Using AC for LED Christmas Lights

Image
This circuit uses low-voltage AC to drive a string of 50 or so bi-color LEDs (two LEDs connected in inverse parallel). Power to the LEDs is controlled by the Triac and the two optocouplers which have their photo-transistors effectively connected in inverse-parallel. Depending on which optocoupler is turned on, the Triac applies positive, negative or both half-cycles to the LEDs and so the colours can be red, green or in-between. Switch S1 is used to select the pulses from two oscillators which are formed by the NAND gates in IC1 (4011B). This provides a variety of LED flash patterns, depending on the setting of S1. Iron Man is the Hero HTC Deserves HTC Spends 1B for Ad Campaign With Robert Downey Jr

Image
HTC is taking a knocking in the smartphone department from Apple and Samsung (hey, at least they're not BlackBerry), but it looks like they're ready to fight back with a helping hand: Iron Man. Robert Downy, Jr. is the face of HTC's new ad campaign, entitled "Change," which they're spending $1 billion on for the next two to three years. What are the best kind of commercials? The ones that make you laugh. Before we continue, a quick game of riddle-me-this : What does "HTC" stand for? Yeah, didn't think you would know. HTC knows you don't know either. So, their RDJ commercials play on just that: the HTC acronym, and RDJ's quest to offer alternatives (like, "Hold This Cat," "Humongous Tinfoil Catamaran," and, "Hipster Troll Car-wash"). The ads are set to start airing Aug. 15, but there's a teaser for the campaign up now that you can check out below. [via Venture Beat ]
