Simple Power LED Driver

Image
If you want to operate power LEDS with a truly constant current which significantly prolongs the lifetime of the lamp and avoid the power loss resulting from using a constant voltage supply with a series resistor, you need a suit-able constant current source. However, the only way to achieve really good efficiency is to use a switching regulator. Altogether, this means that you need a switching regulator designed to generate a constant current instead of a constant voltage. With this in mind, the author started working on the development of a LED pocket torch with especially high efficiency. Along with using high-capacity rechargeable batteries to maximise operating life, it’s worthwhile to be able to reduce the brightness, and therefore the operating current of the LEDs, when you don’t need full power. Accordingly, the author incorporated a dimming function in the design, based on operation in PWM mode in to reduce power losses to an absolute minimum. Power LED Driver Circuit Diagram...

LED Bar Off Indicator

Image
The simple indicator presented in this article may be combined, in principle, with any circuit that contains an LED bar display driven by a Type LM3914 IC. It ensures that an LED will light when all LEDs driven by the LM3914 are out. This prevents one drawing the erroneous conclusion that, since all the LEDs are out, the circuit is switched off. The circuit then continues to draw current, which, especially if it is battery powered, costs unnecessary money, apart from other considerations. The LED in the monitor draws a current of only 1 mA. When the LEDs forming the bar, D1–D10 are all out, there is no potential difference across R3, so that T1 is off and T2 is on. Circuit diagram LED Bar Off Indicator Circuit Diagram This results in T3, in conjunction with R5 and the internal reference voltage of IC1, to form a current source that causes a constant current to flow through D11 so that the diode lights. When on of diodes D1–D10 lights, a potential difference ensues across R3, which caus...

Build a 10 LED Bar Dot VU Meter Circuit based LM3915

Image
Build a 10 LED Bar Dot VU meter circuit based LM3915 . It differs in many respects from other applications on the same chip. The circuit is intended for those who want a VU meter that is connected directly to the output of an power amplifier.  10 LED Bar Dot VU Meter Circuit based LM3915 Circuit Diagram It’s possible to adjust the sensitivity to work with amplifiers that have different output power, you just need to change the value of R1 according to Table 1. In case you did’n find the exact resistor value, then choose the next standard value (for example if you cannot find 33K ohm, then find the 36K ohm), or if you want maximum accuracy you need to put resistors in series or in parallel to achieve the correct value.   You can use various types of LEDs (round or square) to get the visual and aesthetic result you want. The switch S1 will allow you to choose whether VU meter will work as a bar or one by one (dot). In position ON [closed switch], the LED operation is Bar, while ...

LED Volt Meter Circuit Diagram

Image
This is the Simple LED Volt meter to Monitor the charge level in Lead Acid Battery or Tubular battery. The terminal voltage of the battery is indicated through a four level LED indicators. The nominal terminal voltage of a Lead Acid battery is 13.8 volts and that of a Tubular battery is 14.8 volts when fully charged. The LED voltmeter uses four Zener diodes to light the LEDs at the precise breakdown voltage of the Zener diodes. Usually the Zener diode requires 1.6 volts in excess than its prescribed value to reach the breakdown threshold level. When the battery holds 13.6 volts or more, all the Zener breakdown and all LEDs light up. When the battery is discharged below 10.6 volts, all the LEDs remain dark. So depending on the terminal voltage of the battery, LEDs light up one by one or turns off. LED Volt Meter Circuit Diagram      LED Volt Meter Circuit Diagram Author: D. Bicolor LED Driver Uses Two Leads

Image
This circuit detects the correct closed condition of the left and right side bags in a motorcycle companion. The bag has two locks that you must close for protection. Bicolor LED Driver Uses Two Leads Circuit Diagram: When you push the two momentary SPDT (single-pole/double-throw) switches, they sense the correct closed bag. One bicolor red-and-green LED indicates the bag’s status, with the red color showing the open-bag condition. To illuminate the LEDs, you must reverse the polarity of the applied voltage to the LED to change the color (Table 1). Diodes D 1 and D 2 and resistor R 1 form a discrete OR gate. When either pushbutton switch connects to 12V, the voltage at Point A is positive with respect to Point B. Transistor Q 1 conducts, letting current illuminate the red LED. When neither switch connects to 12V, neither diode conducts. The base of Q 1 pulls low through R 1 and R 4 , indicating that the bags are closed. Thus, the green LED illuminates as current passes through it a...

8 Digit 7 Segment LED Display with SPI Interface

Image
The following display features eight 7-segment displays arranged in two rows of four digits. The on-board MAX7219 driver enables you to easily add eight 7-segment LED displays to your project using only 3 I/O pins of microcontroller. The major advantage of using this board is the time-division multiplexing operations required for continuous refreshing of the display digits are performed by the MAX7219 chip, thereby keeping the microcontroller free for doing other pressing tasks. It is suitable for displaying two variable values simultaneously in a project, such as displaying temperature and humidity, or current and voltage, etc. [ ]

Incredibly Illuminated Persistence of Vision LED Clock

Image
Persistence of Vision flashes LEDs during sure moments as it spins, to illustrate formulating a clock above. The PCB blades have been spun around regulating a pc cooling air blower to create this POV clock. The existence outcome is interjection to bright LEDs that have been synchronized with a Hall Effect sensor. The house gets energy wirelessly in between a bottom transformer as well as a curl upon a board. The arrangement is ever becoming different as it receives a lot of inputs from a firmware automatic with 3000 lines of formula. Unlike alternative clocks, we can essentially tweak a lot of animations as well as customize a display.

Bridge Rectifier LED Indicator

Image
Using a few diodes and a LED, you can make a nice indicator as shown in associated schematic diagram that can be used for a lot of applications (with a bit of luck). It’s quite suitable for use in series with a doorbell or thermostat (but don’t try to use it with an electronically con-trolled central-heating boiler!). This approach allows you to make an attractive indicator for just a few pennies.     The AC or DC current through the circuit causes a voltage drop across the diodes that is just enough to light the LED. As the voltage is a bit on the low side, old-fashioned red LEDs are the most suitable for this purpose. Yellow and green LEDs require a somewhat higher forward voltage, so you’ll have to first check whether it works with them. Blue and white LEDs are not suitable. You also don’t have to use modern high-efficiency types (sometimes called ‘2-mA LEDs’ or ‘3-mA LEDs’). If a DC current flows through the circuit and the LED doesn’t light up, reverse the plus and minus lead...

Random Blinking Flashing LED

Image
We can using this circuit to make the LEDs blink in a random pattern according to the slight differences in the three Schmitt Trigger oscillators. The CD4511 is BCD to 7 segment Driver, so the pattern of the led is actually the come from seven segment representation. Arrange the LEDs to be far from seven segment pattern if you want to avoid people analyze your circuit. The randomness is based on the frequency difference because the 22uF and 47k resistors that determine the frequency have at least 5% tolerance.

LED Flashlight Using Supercapacitor

Image
Bored of joking with capacitors? Then its time for you to maneuver on to super-capacitors. These have huge storage capabilities. during this article you may conclude the way to build atiny low LED flashlight using supercapacitors. The most disadvantage of capacitors is their giant voltage drop. For this project, a minimum voltage of two volts is needed to light-weight the LED. As a result, the “Joule Thief” style would be incorporated here. Using this, a AA battery is used to light-weight an LED until it's fully discharged.  during this case, a supercapacitor would be taking the place of the battery. Here an LED is employed to perform the operate of a diode. This ensures that there's sufficient voltage across the LED.  the necessities of the project are listed below: White LED Super capacitor (10F, 2.7 V) Transistor Torus 1 k ohm resistor Wires Breadboard The torus and therefore the transistor used here comes from an energy-saving lamp HS. Care ought to be taken whereas removi...

LED Heart PWM Fading

Image
The concept for this small birthday present was to create a small heart shape with red LEDs and then to draw a heart shape underneath it on the PCB as a backdrop. Then a small processor was added to control the heart shape of LEDs for both fade and pattern control. The method of control that we use (PWM) allows us to save precious battery life, control the exact brightness of each specific LED and create this tiny but awesome project.

White LED Lamp

Image
Nowadays you can buy white LEDs, which emit quite a bit of light. They are so bright that you shouldn’t look directly at them. They are still expensive, but that is bound to change. You can make a very good solid-state pocket torch using a few of these white LEDs. The simplest approach is naturally to use a separate series resistor for each LED, which has an operating voltage of around 3.5 V at 20 mA. Depending on the value of the supply voltage, quite a bit of power will be lost in the resistors. The converter shown here generates a voltage that is high enough to allow ten LEDs to be connected in series. In addition, this converter supplies a constant current instead of a constant voltage. A resistor in series with the LEDs produces a voltage drop that depends on the current through the LEDs. This voltage is compared inside the IC to a 1.25-V reference value, and the current is held constant at 18.4 mA (1.25 V ÷ 68 Ω). The IC used here is one of a series of National Semiconductor ‘sim...

LED Light Pen Circuit Diagram

Image
Physicians and repair engineers often use small light pens for visual examination purposes. Rugged and expensive as these pens may be, their weak point is the bulb, which is a ‘serviceable’ part. In practice, that nearly always equates to ‘expensive’ and / or ‘impossible to find’ when you need one. LEDs have a much longer life than bulbs and the latest ultra bright white ones also offer higher energy-to-light conversion efficiency. On the down side, LEDs require a small electronic helper circuit called ‘constant-current source’ to get the most out of them.   LED Light Pen Circuit Diagram Here, T1 and R1 switch on the LED. R2 acts as a current sensor with T2 shunting off (most of) T1’s base bias current when the voltage developed across R2 exceeds about 0.65 V. The constant current through the white LED is calculated from R2 = 0.65 / ILED With some skill the complete circuit can be built such that its size is equal to an AA battery. The four button cells take the place of the other...

Automotive LED Timing Light

Image
A useful timing strobe can be constructed using high-brightness LEDs and a few common components. Ignition pulses from the number 1 cylinder high-tension lead are used to trigger the circuit via a home-made inductive pickup. Transistors Q1 & Q2 buffer and amplify the pulses from the pickup, which then drive the inputs of three Schmitt-trigger inverters (IC1a, IC1c & IC1f). Each positive pulse at the inverter inputs causes a low pulse at their outputs, forward-biasing D2 and immediately discharging the 6.8nF capacitor. When the capacitor is discharged, the inputs of the second bank of three inverters (IC1b, IC1d & IC1e) see a logic low level, so their outputs go high, driving Q3 into conduction and powering the LED array. After the pulse ends, the IC1a, IC1c & IC1f inverter outputs return high, reverse biasing D2. Small LED lamp circuit

Image
circuit diagram: A total of four 1.2V cells are used here. Resistor R2 limits the charging current. For charging Li-ion battery (used in mobile phones), shift switches S1 and S2 to ‘on’ position and use connector ‘C.’ Regulator IC 7805 (IC2) provides 5V for charging the Li-ion battery. Using this circuit, you can charge a 3.6V Li-ion cell very easily. Resistor R3 limits the charging current. Fig. 2 shows the circuit for a small LED-based lamp. It is simple and low-cost. Six 10mm white LEDs (LED2 through LED7) are used here. Just connect them in parallel and drive directly by a 3.6V DC source. You can use either pencil-type Ni-Cd batteries or rechargeable batteries as the power source. Assemble the circuit on a general-purpose PCB and enclose in a small box. Mount RCA socket on the front panel of the box and wire RCA plug with cable for connecting the battery and LED-based lamp to the charger.
